County Commissioner Candidate Pledges to Restore Fiscal Responsibility

After Commissioner Board passed largest county budget in history

In response to what he describes as "runaway spending and fiscal mismanagement" by the current Democrat controlled Commissioner Board following their passage of the largest county budget in county history, Commissioner candidate Nick Cuozzo is advocating for a comprehensive review of county expenditures.

The $284.6 million budget, passed by the Board, represents a nearly 5% increase from the previous year, with an average annual tax increase of $79.38 for homeowners, based on a property assessed at $590,863.

Since the Democrats gained control of Somerset County in 2020, the county's budget has significantly increased from $239 million to nearly $285 million—an alarming $45 million rise within a five-year span. The most substantial year-over-year budget increase is projected for 2025.

"While our hardworking families are making tough financial choices and tightening their belts, our County Commissioners continue to spend recklessly at the taxpayers’ expense," stated Cuozzo. "This level of mismanagement is unacceptable, and it's time for a change. As commissioner, I will advocate for budgets that prioritize essential services without overburdening our citizens.”

Highlighting the necessity for transparency, accountability, and prudent budgeting, Cuozzo promises to reintroduce a fiscally responsible approach to county government.

"You’re paying more—but are you getting more?" he questioned. "As your next County Commissioner, I pledge to fight to ensure that every tax dollar is treated with respect and that every decision prioritizes the residents of Somerset County."
