Disorderly Man On Train, Fraud, Shoplifting Reported In Basking Ridge

A business e-mail scam also defrauded someone in Bernards Township out of $50,000, according to the police blotter.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Fraud, theft, shoplifting, and a disorderly person were reported in June, according to the Bernards Township Police blotter.

During the month of June, Bernards Township Police Officers responded to 31 motor vehicle crashes. There were six injuries reported and nine motor vehicle summonses issued.

  • Det. James Moore obtained a warrant for the arrest of David G. Wilson of East Orange, after an investigation into motor vehicle burglaries on Harrison Drive on April 8. Wilson was arrested by the Cranford police department and is currently in jail.
  • Det. Dominick Aboosamara obtained a warrant for Barbara Hojnacki of Illinois, for theft by deception, and identity theft for a business e-mail scam in which the victim was at a loss of $50,000.
  • Det. Dominick Aboosamara issued summonses to Batina Drew and Massenia Chiles both of Franklin Township, for shoplifting and employing a juvenile for shoplifting. Charges are pending for the 17-year-old male. The charges are the result of an investigation at the Stop and Shop in which around $2,700 worth of personal care products, baby formula, and groceries were taken without payment.
  • On June 1: Patrol officers pursued a vehicle that was stolen and reportedly involved in an armed robbery in another jurisdiction. New Jersey State Police units assumed primary control of the pursuit and later arrested the individual after crashing in Bridgewater Township.
  • On June 3: Det. Aboosamara received approval for an arrest warrant for Armani R. Tyndale-Pacific of East Orange, and issued three complaint summonses to Britany M. Jones of East Orange, for theft by deception, forgery, and conspiracy, as a result of an investigation from their involvement in a fraud incident reported by a resident of Tall Timber Lane who had a check altered in the amount of $34,886.08.
  • On June 3: Patrol officers responded to a report of a 68-year-old man who was unresponsive and not breathing. Officers, with the assistance of Atlantic Ambulance Medics and EMT’s performed CPR and used an AED to restore the man’s cardiac rhythm so he could be taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital.
  • On June 5: Officer Kyle McCartney arrested Daniel D. Mocion-Pichardo for an NCIC warrant issued by the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department for non-payment of child support. Mocion-Pichardo was turned over to Passaic County Sheriff’s Officers, who took him to their facility.
  • On June 6: Patrol officers responded to a residence on Lyons Place for a report of a mailbox that was damaged by an unknown vehicle. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the police department.
  • On June 9: Det. Sgt. Steven Matthews issued a complaint summons for shoplifting to John P. Lyons of Wantage, in relation to a shoplifting incident that occurred at the Stop and Shop on May 12.
  • On June 15: Officer Tyler Widitz arrested Camrae N. Johnson of Newark, for an outstanding warrant out of Madison Twp. Johnson was also issued a summons for operating an unregistered vehicle and was turned over to Madison Police without incident.
  • On June 15: Officer Kyle McCartney arrested Martin Konn of Toms River, who was wanted by Long Hill Police on a domestic violence warrant. Konn was turned over to Long Hill PD without incident.
  • On June 23: A resident of Honeyman Road reported a fraudulent Crypto investment scam in which they are at a loss of $17,000. This matter is currently being investigated by the Detective Bureau.
  • On June 24: Officers responded to the area of Edward Court for a report of two men soliciting roofing repair without a permit. Each man was issued a summons for soliciting without a permit.
  • On June 24: Officers responded to the Basking Ridge Train Station for a report of a disorderly man. Officers helped NJ Transit in having the man exit the train and provided him a ride home to Bernardsville without incident.
  • On June 25: A resident of Arbor Terrace Senior Living reported two missing gold necklaces. The matter is currently being investigated by the Detective Bureau.
  • On June 28: A resident of Potomac Drive reported the temporary registration tag for their vehicle was taken while parked on Wedgewood Drive. The Detective Bureau is currently investigating the incident.
  • On June 29: Officer Tyler Widitz arrested Sarah Ulrich of Ringwood, for an outstanding warrant out of Vernon Twp. Ulrich was taken to the Somerset County Jail without incident.

"The Bernard’s Township Police would like to continue to remind everyone to report suspicious activity observed by calling 908-766-1122. Please keep vehicles locked, without the keys in them and valuables out of sight. Please confirm all suspicious calls/emails/texts/messages requesting monetary payments with law enforcement or banking officials before sending funds," said police.
