Liberty Corner School Named State School of Character

Thirteen New Jersey schools and one school district were named New Jersey Schools of Character.

Liberty Corner School has once again been named a New Jersey School of Character by the New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional and Character Development (NJASECD).

Liberty Corner School was among 13 schools and one school district in the state to be named as a 2015 New Jersey School of Character. These schools’ applications, including Liberty Corner School’s, have been forwarded to the national level of Character.org, a national character education advocate and are in the national evaluation process for consideration to be 2015 National Schools of Character, according to a release from the NJASECD.

Schools are chosen as Schools of Character based upon Character.org’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education, according to the NJASECD. The principles of effective character education include providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership and engaging families and communities as partners in character‐building efforts.

“You can feel the positive climate in these schools the minute you walk through the door,” Nina Kemps, New Jersey Schools of Character Coordinator, said in a release from the NJASECD. “The students, staff and community are respectful and care about each other, and the academics scores improve.”

The New Jersey Schools of Character will be honored at Rider University on May 29 at the NJASECD Annual Conference. The 2015 National Schools of Character will be announced in mid-May at a press conference in Washington, D.C.
