New Somerset County Commissioner Appointed, Sworn In

Basking Ridge's Elizabeth Graner was sworn in as Somerset County's newly appointed Commissioner.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A new Somerset County Commissioner was appointed and sworn in on Tuesday.

Elizabeth Graner, a Basking Ridge resident, was sworn in by former Commissioner Douglas Singleterry, who was required to resign following his appointment to the state judiciary on June 2.

"I am honored to be joining this already inspiring team of leaders," said Commissioner Graner. "I look forward to continuing their successes in creating leadership that allows residents to be seen, heard, and valued."

Graner will fill the seat in an interim role and will be the Democratic nominee for the unexpired term in the November special election.

Graner has been an English teacher at Rahway Public Schools since 2001 and sat on the Somerset County Board of Taxation from 2022 to 2025. She previously served on Somerset County’s Commission on the Status of Women and is also a graduate of the County’s Leadership program, Leadership Somerset.

Graner will serve as liaison to Raritan Valley Community College, Somerset County Vocational and Technical Schools, and the Mental Health Board.

"Commissioner Graner will bring a fresh perspective to the County and her experience as a teacher will be an asset to the Board and to the residents of our County," said Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson.
