Somerset County Man Arrested For Alleged Drug Possession Within A School Zone, Robbery
A narcotics investigation has led to the arrested of a 28-year-old Somerset County man on multiple charges.

A narcotics investigation has led to the arrested of a 28-year-old North Plainfield man on multiple charges such as, robbery, drug, and weapon possession.
According to authorities, Tyree K. Brown was allegedly part of a 3:30 a.m. robbery at the intersection of Duer Street and Craig Place over the course of the investigation on August 3.
“During the robbery defendant Brown struck the male victim about the head and body with a metal pipe,” according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. “Brown forcibly took the victim’s wallet containing personal papers, cash and credit cards.”

A search warrant was executed by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force and the North Plainfield Police Department the next day, Aug. 4. It was around 1 p.m. When authorities noticed Brown leaving his residence.
“While he was walking in a westerly direction on Craig Place defendant Brown was observed to be carrying a black compact disc carrying case,” according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. “Detectives approached defendant Brown and advised him of the ongoing narcotic investigation.”

During the investigation of Brown’s home, police seized:
- 388 decks of heroin (over ½ ounce)
- 4 Oxycodone pills
- 2 Alprazolam pills
- 9 syringes
- $732.00 in currency
The wallet and its contents from the Aug. 3 robbery were also recovered during the investigation.
The narcotics seized in this investigation had a street value of approximately $2,670.00 and were within 1000 feet of the Somerset School on Somerset Street.Task Force members also obtained a Search Warrant for the compact disc case which later revealed a loaded 9mm handgun.
All together, Brown has been charged with:
- Robbery, 1st Degree
- Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, 3rd Degree
- Possession of CDS (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute, 2nd Degree
- Possession of a Firearm, 2nd Degree
- Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 2nd Degree
- Possession of CDS (Heroin) with Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of a school, 3rd Degree
- Possession of CDS (Oxycodone), 3rd Degree
- Possession of CDS (Alprazolam), 3rd Degree
- Disorderly Persons offense Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Brown was lodged in the Somerset County Jail.
