Veterans Flags Come Down at Town Hall

This year's went up at the municipal complex in Basking Ridge with little fanfare after Superstorm Sandy, just in time for Veterans Day. Volunteers also made quick work of taking the flags down last weekend.

The flags gathered attention this year not only to honor veterans but as pick-me-up after Sandy left the town's residents without power for up to two weeks. 

But even without power, the cancellation of a and a lack of professional help, the flags went up in time for Veterans Day.

Along with members of the Bernards Township Beautification Committee, local boy scouts, Ridge High School students and other volunteers helped take down the remaining flags not claimed from a display of more than 130 Old Glories.

Laura Begg, chairwoman of the Bernards Township Beautification Committee and organizer of the event, said that those flags not claimed by this weekend will become part of next year's display. However, ribbons still may be claimed, she said.
