Airbnb Is Cracking Down On July 4th Parties In New Jersey (Here’s How)
The company says it is rolling out a series of measures that will help prevent rowdy bashes over the July 4th weekend in the Garden State.
NEW JERSEY — Airbnb is trying to crack down on renters who plan to host “disruptive and unauthorized parties” in New Jersey for the Independence Day holiday.
The company recently announced that it is rolling out a series of measures that aim to crack down on rowdy bashes over the busy July 4th weekend.
Here’s the plan, according to an Airbnb spokesperson:

“This crackdown will see a block on certain one-night and two-night reservations over the upcoming holiday weekend for entire home listings throughout the United States. Last year, Airbnb implemented a similar initiative over the Fourth of July weekend and we saw a decrease in reports of disruptive and unauthorized parties. Specifically in New Jersey, approximately 1,800 people were deterred from booking entire home listings over the Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekend due to these defenses.”
Some red flags that may prevent a reservation include a guest’s history of positive reviews (or lack of positive reviews), the distance to the listing, and whether the booking is “last-minute,” Airbnb says.
Guests who are able to make local reservations are required to attest that they understand Airbnb bans parties, and that if they break this rule, they may be subject to suspension or removal from the platform.

In addition, the company has reached out to law enforcement agencies in cities across the nation – including in New Jersey – to share available resources for local police in case an “issue” takes place involving an Airbnb listing or stay. These resources include a dedicated channel for law enforcement requests and assistance from a specialized response team.
The same “party prevention system” is in place for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, Airbnb says.
