Belleville: School Reopens Wednesday, Township Still Providing Heat Shelter

Township preparing for another blast of nasty weather

Belleville Board of Education member Joe Longo has confirmed that the township’s public schools will reopen Wednesday as scheduled, he said late Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the township is bracing for another blast of miserable weather even as pockets of the township, including Ralph Street, remained without power more than a week after Hurricane Sandy ripped through the area.

The township will still be offering shelter to those who need it, although that shelter location may have to be moved depending on weather conditions, Councilman Steve Rovell told Patch Tuesday.

If necessary, shelter will be provided at the township’s senior citizen building at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Mill Street beginning tomorrow, Rovell said. If flooding or another condition ensues, however, those needing shelter may have to be moved yet again during the day Wednesday, he also said.

A nor’easter is forecast to arrive in the area sometime early in the day Wednesday, bringing rain and wind gusts that may reach more than 40 mph.
