Belleville Town Council OKs Latest Budget, Approves Tax Increase
Here's what the average Belleville homeowner will pay.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Belleville Town Council gave a thumbs-up to the latest municipal budget at this week’s meeting.
The council unanimously voted for final adoption of the fiscal year 2025 budget on Tuesday. It will come with a $96 increase to the municipal portion of an average homeowner’s property taxes – up $7 from an earlier projection.
Every municipal budget increase for the past five years has been under $99, officials previously said.

Property taxes in New Jersey are mainly made up of three parts: school, municipal and county. The average Belleville resident paid $11,273 in property taxes on a home valued at $279,525 last year. Read More: See Average Property Tax Bills In Belleville, Nutley (2025 Update)

In May, the Belleville Public School District’s former state monitor overturned a vote from the board of education. The decision greenlighted the district’s 2025-2026 budget, which will come with a $126 tax increase for a home assessed at $279,900. The next town council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28.
