Curfew in Belleville Begins Thursday Night, Heated Shelters Available

Measures to cope with Sandy aftermath continue

Along with new gas distribution regulations affecting Belleville stations, which take effect Monday, the township has annouced that a curfew is in effect as of Thursday.

The curfew will be in place from 10 pm to 6 am. Those out for job-related reasons, school or for medical appointments are exempt. The curfew will be lifted when the state of emergency declared by Gov. Chris Christie ends.

The township has further announced that recreational activities are suspended for the weekend.

The township is offering a heated shelter Thursday night at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 94 Bridge St. As of 8 am Friday, the shelter at Belleville High School, which is now heated, will reopen. The high school is located at 100 Passaic Ave.
