Honored for Work in Nutley Civic Affairs
The Jaycees' 2013 award In the area of civic affairs honors former teacher and longtime volunteer Teri Ruffo for her volunteer service with literally dozens of civic, community and religious organizations in Nutley.
A retired teacher for 28 years at the Yantacaw elementary school, Mrs. Ruffo's volunteer service to the Nutley community involves an almost unbelievable list of activities. She has served 25 years and is on the board of directors at the Nutley Red Cross, and for years has been on the planning committee for Nutley's annual Christopher Columbus Parade.
She is trustee of the Nutley Public Library and member of its "Friends" support group. Mrs. Ruffo is a member of the Nutley Republican Club, the American Association of University Women, Nutley's Christopher Columbus Parade Committee and the Nutley Amvet's Women's Auxiliary.
She has received the Stewardship Award at Holy Family Church where she volunteers as an instructor in religious education. She also is a volunteer with the Nutley Family Service Bureau and serves on the advisory board at the Good Shepherd Academy.
Other organizations that Mrs. Ruffo has served as either a director or member include the Nutley Women's Initiative, the Holy Family Church choir where she is a 30-year member and Cantor, and the Nutley Art Society. Her volunteer efforts have extended to neighboring communities as well, with the Bloomfield Art League and Art Associations in Essex, Rutherford, West Essex and Clifton.
