The nor’easter that passed through the area Wednesday night seems to have left Nutley and Belleville largely unscathed, officials in both towns said Thursday morning.
“Belleville is pretty much 100 percent,” said Kevin Esposito, Belleville’s township manager. “Fortunately we did not get as much snow and the wind was not as heavy as expected. No more branches came down. I think all that was going to happen happened last week with that storm.”
Officials earlier this week had feared that Wednesday’s blast of severe weather might cause more tree branches and power lines to fall, raising the possibility of another round of power outages just as Belleville and Nutley were recovering from last week’s Superstorm Sandy.
But as dawn broke Thursday in east Essex, it became clear the nor’easter proved to be little more than a run-of-the-mill snow shower, at least in this area.
“We didn’t have any more outages, thank God,” said Nutley Mayor Alphonse Petracco.
Commissioner Joseph Scarpelli, director of the township’s public works department, said salters were dispatched Wednesday, before the storm hit, and the township’s roads all appeared to be clear early Thursday morning.
“We made out OK,” Scarpelli said.
