Nutley High School was locked down Monday after a folding knife was discovered in a student’s locker, according to a statement from Nutley police posted on the school’s Web site.
Police also said they did not believe any Nutley High student was ever in danger.
School officials learned that a student may have brought the knife to school around 1:19 pm, then notified police and initiated the lockdown. A small folding pocket knife was discovered in the locker of the 15-year-old student.
Police also learned the student may have had fireworks or black powder in his home. A search turned up blasting caps, the statement read.
The youth was charged with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon and released to his parents.
