Nutley Police: Vandals Damage Cars and Homes

Houses and cars pelted with eggs, rocks and paintballs, police say.

Several homes and automobiles have been damaged this month by vandals throwing eggs, rocks and paintballs, according to Nutley police.

Police say vandals with eggs targeted multiple homes on and near Rhoda Avenue on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16.

Rhoda Avenue residents reported that their car was egged on Friday night.  The car was parked on the street and was also scratched on the driver’s side, according to reports. No one was seen causing the damage and the victim told police they didn’t know who might have done it.

Three other Rhoda Avenue residents told police that that their cars were "egged" on Saturday, with two noting that it wasn’t the first time it had happened. Police said they are looking into several leads regarding the incidents.  

Also on Saturday, a resident reported that an unknown vandal threw a rock at the rear window of their car which was parked in a driveway on Walnut Street, causing an estimated $600.  Police also checked the surrounding area with negative results. Later that day, the victim told police they found rocks under the front window of their home and dents in the siding of the house, reports said.

On Monday, March 18, police received numerous reports of an unknown vandal shooting paintballs at homes and cars in the area of Kingsland Street. One victim stated someone shot an orange paint ball at their front window. While they were home at the time of the incident, they did not see the shooter.

That same day, police met with a victim who reported hearing three loud bangs. Police noticed three paint balls splattered on the otherwise undamaged front glass door. Another resident reported having their home hit by paintballs that day as well.

On Thursday, March 21, a Passaic Avenue resident told police that someone had thrown a large rock through the back window of their car while it was parked in their driveway.
