Police: Drunk Motorcycle Rider Damaged Holding Cell After Arrest

Man reportedly kicked out door and flooded cell's toilet after getting stopped for alleged speeding.

Nutley police say a Kearny man became aggressive and damaged two holding cells following his arrest for speeding and driving under the influence.

Michael Stiller, 24, was pulled over by Nutley Police on Washington Avenue for driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone shortly after 2:30 a.m. on March 21, according to reports. After he was stopped, Stiller reportedly shouted obscenities at police. Officers say Stiller had watery eyes and that his breath smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage.

Despite the presence of several police cars that arrived on scene for backup, Stiller allegedly continued to shout obscenities and threaten police, reports state. Once officers arrested him, they reportedly found a knife in a sheath threaded to the back of Stiller's belt.

Stiller was taken to police headquarters, and while in the holding cell, he reportedly kicked the front sliding cage door, bending the door and rendering it unusable, according to police.

Stiller was then moved to another cell where he allegedly stuffed an excessive amount of toilet paper into the toilet bowl and flushed repeatedly to flood the toilet.

Stiller was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, prohibited weapons/devices, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was also issued four motor vehicle summonses for DWI, refusal to submit to a breath test, speeding and driving while intoxicated within 1000 feet of a school.

Stiller posted bail and was released, pending a court appearance, police said.
