Three Vehicles Stolen in Belleville in One Week

Robbery attempt of a fourth vehicle also reported.

At least three vehicles were reported stolen in Belleville last week, including a van recovered after it had been involved in an accident, Belleville police said Friday.

A 1997 Volkswagen that had been parked on Bremond Street was reported stolen last Monday shortly before 11 a.m. The car was last seen by its owner around 5 p.m the night before.  

A 2009 Ford van was also reported stolen last Monday from a Franklin Avenue parking lot. That vehicle was later discovered by police in Elizabeth who said it had been damaged in a traffic accident.

A 2010 Honda Civic was taken from Tappan Avenue sometime between 6 p.m. last Tuesday and about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when it was reported stolen. The car was recovered Thursday in North Arlington.

A witness told police he saw two Hispanic males attempt to break into a 1998 Honda Civic while it was parked on Hornblower Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The witness, who saw the two men run north on Hornblower, later discovered someone had broken the car’s ignition switch and had also left a chisel on the floor of the car.
