Another Day Of Dangerous Rip Currents In Ocean County

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - It's not a good day to go swimming at the beach, even if the sun's out. The National Weather Service is again calling for a high risk of rip currents and very rough surf.

"A high risk of rip currents means dangerous and potentially life-threatening conditions exist for all people entering the surf," the NWS says. "People visiting the beaches should stay out of the high surf."

The surf will still be very rough, with waves from 5 to 7 feet, and southeasterly swells of 5 feet. The ocean water temperature is 75 degrees, although that may vary from beach to beach. Several beach patrols in Long Beach Island banned all ocean swimming on Saturday.

We won't have the torrential downpours of yesterday. But skies will be mostly cloudy, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs today will be in the lower 80s. Winds will be from the south at 15 to 20 miles per hour. The lightning threat is moderate, which means that thunderstorms are possible.

The ultraviolet index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high. So if you're just planning on working on your tan, don't forget to slather on the sunscreen.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet will arrive at 10:35 a.m. High tide at will roll in at 4:49 p.m., followed by another low tide at 11:21 p.m.
