Property Revaluation Coming For Berkeley Residents: What To Know

Property owners can expect an appraiser to come and assess their house during the revaluation program.

BERKELEY, NJ — Berkeley residents may have received a brochure to their house announcing that a property assessment revaluation is coming.

This program has not been completed in nearly 15 years, Berkeley officials said. The Ocean County Board of Taxation has ordered a revaluation of Berkeley to be completed and implemented by the 2027 tax year.

"Some of the major forces responsible for causing inequity in assessments are inflation and neighborhood trends," township officials said. "As a consequence, all properties have not increased in value at the same rate since the last revaluation; hence, imbalances have been created."

The process has already started. Township officials ask that residents cooperate with the data collectors.

If you're not home when the inspector comes, an exterior inspection will be completed and a notice will be left asking for you to call for the interior inspection.

"If the representative is unable to inspect your home or if you refuse entry, the interior information will be estimated which may cause your home’s valuation to be at the highest level for your property type, so your cooperation will be greatly appreciated," township officials said.

When the process is complete, you will receive a letter. Letters will go out fall of 2026, officials said.
