When police first arrived at Johnson's home to notify relatives Wednesday, no one answered the door. Using a key they found in his belongings, officers went inside and immediately encountered a strong odor. Authorities discovered Keronen's deceased body lying on the kitchen floor.

She suffered apparent head trauma and appeared to have been dead for some time when police found her. Keronen's death has been ruled a homicide, police said.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit and the Jackson Township Police then went to Lakewood to notify Keronen’s family. Her brother had reported her missing to the Lakewood Police Department earlier in the day. The last time he saw her was Sunday at approximately 9 a.m., police said

At this point, the investigation indicates a murder/suicide, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
