Beachwood Police Charge Three With More Than 30 Tire Slashings

Police arrested a borough man, a juvenile and a Toms River man for criminal mischief.

BEACHWOOD, NJ - Beachwood detectives recently arrested two men and a juvenile and charged them with a series of overnight tire slashings between May 15 and May 16, according to the department's Facebook page.

Detectives finished up a week-long investigation into the crimes on May 22 and arrested Christopher Schmeling, 19, a 17-year-old male juvenile, both from Beachwood, and Anthony Chabuel, 18, Toms River.

Detective Allen Magory was the lead investigating officer and charged all three with criminal mischief, the post states. The investigation is ongoing and more complaints may be filed.

Victims of the vandalism will be contacted by police as part of the continued follow-up regarding the investigation.

The tire slashings took place on Leeward, Spar, and Anchor avenues. Police earlier this month asked residents to check their home surveillance systems between 11 p.m. on May 15 and 7 am. on May 16 for any suspicious activity.

Magory was able to develop information which assisted in the arrests through networking with the public as well as with other law enforcement partners. Anyone with any helpful information regarding this case may contact Magory at 732-286-6000 ext. 191, or e-mail him at amagory@beachwoodpolice.com.
