Caught In The Act: Bayville Man Arrested For Distributing Heroin In Mill Creek Condominium Complex
Police observed Joseph Caruso selling heroin near playground and bus stops in the complex

Berkeley police have charged a resident of the Mill Creek Condominiums with selling heroin in the complex, near a playground and bus stops, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.
Police traced the heroin packets found on Oct. 3 on a roadway in the complex to Joseph Caruso, 41, who lives in the complex on Puffin Glade, the chief said.
"This heroin was packaged for resale and was located in an area where children await the school bus," DiMichele said. "The suspected heroin was taken into evidence and an immediate investigation was undertaken by Berkeley detectives."

Undercover police detectives observed Caruso again distributing heroin at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 6 in the playground, the chief said.
When detectives approached Caruso, he fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody. He had a large amount of cash on him and additional heroin was seized, DiMichele said.

Caruso was taken to police headquarters and charged with distribution of heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession of heroin. Municipal Court Judge James Gluck set his bail at $50,000 cash, with more charges expected, the chief said.
Caruso also had a no-bail warrant out of Burlington County for contempt of court.
"This investigation could not have been successful without the many tips received," DiMichele said.
Residents are asked to report suspicious activity to the Berkeley Township Police TIP Line at 732-341-1132 x 611. Tips can be anonymous.
"Residents are further reminded that there are potential dangers in coming into contact with narcotics such as heroin, due to the agents and chemicals used in there manufacturing and production," the chief said. "Please contact police if any suspect narcotics are discovered. Do not handle these items."
