Chance Of Showers, Moderate Rip Current Risk At Ocean Beaches

Surf is still choppy, the ocean water temperature is 76 degrees.

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - Today will be an iffy day at Ocean County beaches.

One minute it's raining, then it's blue skies and sunshine. Officially, the National Weather Service is calling for mostly cloudy skies, with showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Highs today will be in the lower 80s. Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour. The lightning threat is low.

Waves will be around 4 feet high, with light swells. The ocean water temperature is 76 degrees, but that can vary from beach to beach. For example, Beach Haven is reporting a water temperature of 65 degrees.

The rip current risk is moderate. Be sure to check with your local beach patrol about surf conditions. Never, ever swim on an unguarded beach and never swim alone or at night. Too many people have died in the ocean this summer. Don't add your name to the list.

The ultraviolet index is an 8, which the NWS considers very high. So don't forget the sunscreen, despite the often cloudy skies.

Have a nice day and be careful out there!
