Driver Badly Injured After Hitting Large Utility Pole On Harbor Inn Road, Berkeley Police Chief Says
The cause of the accident is believed to be a medical issue.

A driver was badly injured earlier this week when his 2002 Toyota ran off Route 9 near Harbor Inn Road and crashed into a large utility pole, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.
The pole and the car were severely damaged from the impact.
"It is believed that the cause of the accident may be due to a medical issue," the chief said.

The driver was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment. The Bayville Fire Department, Berkeley EMS and MONOC paramedics responded.
Jersey Central Power and Light responded to fix the pole. The crash is under investigation by Patrolman Houghkirk of the Traffic Safety Bureau.
