Local Fire Companies, EMS Volunteers Salute A Brave 11-Year-Old Lacey Boy One Last Time
Owen Koehler has been fighting brain cancer for the last year and a half. His treatments aren't working and have been stopped.

The Koehler family of Lacey Township lives changed on Sept. 4, 2015. That's the day their son Owen was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Owen was diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma, a malignant brain tumor, on September 4, 2015. Owen has soldiered through two surgeries, several different chemotherapies, and radiation. But his tumor is very aggressive and has continued to spread, according to the Facebook page Owen's Fight.
So his parents have decided to let Owen enjoy the rest of his life without treatments, since the treatments are not working.

"Mike and I would like to spend Owen's remaining days focused on his needs and making sure he is comfortable," his mother wrote on Owen's Fight. "Time may not allow us to check off everything on his list. We are determined to make every second count as he prepares to get his wings."
Owen has family ties to nearby South Toms River. A parade of fire trucks, fire engines, and EMS passed by his home on Saturday for one last time. The parade lasted almost seven minutes.
