Ocean County Fair Kicks Off At 5 P.M. In Berkeley

The fair will run from tonight through Sunday at Robert J. Miller Airpark off Route 530

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - It all began back in September 1947.

That was the birth of the "4-H Achievement and Agricultural Field Day," which is now known as the Ocean County Fair.

The first fair was held in Lakewood and was not the extravaganza it has grown into these days. It featured a handful of exhibits from local 4-H clubs and several concession stands. A total of 500 people attended the first fair.

This year's fair bears little resemblance to the 1947 event. 4-H will still be there. But so will music and magic acts, a wild west show, the ever popular pig races, rides and plenty of food available for purchase.

The fair was moved to Robert J. Miller Airpark in 1982. The airpark is located on Route 530 in Berkeley Township.
