Ocean County Freeholders Proud To Be 'Deplorables'

Earlier this year, members of the Ocean County Republican Organization were wary of the presidential candidacy of Donald J. Trump.

Back then, longtime Republican Chairman George R. Gilmore suggested that the organization hold off on endorsing Trump. But just a week or so later, the club gave a lukewarm endorsement of Trump.

Things have changed since then.

Board members took turns during an agenda session on Wednesday praising the President-Elect, according to app.com.

Freeholder Gerry P. Little said he considered himself “one of the deplorables” who supported Trump.

Back in September, Hillary Clinton said half of Trump supporters were "...the basket of deplorables..Racist, sexist homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."

“I think we all are,” said Freeholder Director John P. Kelly, who was elected to his eighth term on Tuesday.

“I know,” Little said. “The most important issue is saving the Supreme Court, and that means, hopefully, that we will have a conservative court that is going to uphold the Constitution of the United States. So I couldn’t have been more delighted, it was quite a day.”

“The other good news is that all of those illegal, executive orders are going to be done with at the stroke of a pen,” Kelly said.

“Never forget we are deplorable people,” Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari.said.

Monmouth County Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal said although he doesn't support some of Trump's initiatives, he wishes Trump the best leading the country.

“I think everyone is rooting for him," Gopal said. "His success is important. A lot is at stake.”
