A Perfect Day For The Blessing Of The Fleet In Bayville
Dozens of boats headed out into Barnegat Bay to take part in a Bayville tradition
Bayville's Blessing of the Fleet is annual community event that's been going on for nearly 20 years. And Sunday was no exception, with near perfect weather.
It started with a boat parade from Berkeley Shores out through the Amherst Beach inlet. Boats chugged their way through Barnegat Bay out to buoy number 39. The actual blessing was done by a member of the clergy, who actually used a Super Shooter to spray water on the boats as they passed by.
That was followed by a memorial ceremony for all those lost, and a wreath laying on the bay. Then everyone headed back to Amherst Beach for a free picnic provided by the Berkeley Shores Homeowners Civic Association.
