Petition Begun To Bring Back "Jersey Shore" To Seaside Heights

Show has been "nothing but good" for the borough, petition states

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ - A group called "Bring Back Jersey Shore" has launched a petition on change.org calling Seaside officials to allow the MTV show to be filmed again in the borough.

The petition claims that the show has been "nothing but good" to Seaside Heights, especially in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

"It will greatly impact Seaside Heights for the better," the petition states. "And bring so much revenue.. it's not fair that Seaside Heights, New Jersey won't allow them back to film."

Borough officials did allow the cast to film briefly for two days in late June, but have no plans to allow the show back full time, Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz has said.

The borough was approached by 495 Productions earlier this summer, to film "very limited activities"and celebrate the birthdays of two of the cast members.

"It was very limited, in the middle of the week," Vaz has told Patch. "They did what they were here to do and they are out of Dodge."

Both Brick Township and Wildwood recently refused requests to allow the show that debuted on MTV in 2009 and aired 71 episodes.

The show was controversial for its view of summer life in Seaside Heights, and the cast's antics, which included some boardwalk and bar fights. Many local residents weren't happy with the attention the cast drew.

The petition states that Jersey Shore is "not the same wild show it once was 6 years ago..." and says the cast members have grown up.

"...and this is what the fans want to see and have back!" the petition says.

"They should be able to film," one woman wrote in the petition's comments section. "They brought a lot of revenue there. Helped after Sandy and now they aren't allowed back. Totally not fair."

As of late Thursday morning, 342 people had signed the petition, which has a goal of 500 signatures. To see the petition, click here.
