Prosecutor's Office To Step Up DWI / Drug Enforcement In Seaside Heights Area Over Holiday Weekend

Thanksgiving is a time for thanks, not mourning the loss of loved ones in avoidable accidents, prosecutor says.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office wants you to know that police will be hitting the streets with roving patrols and numerous checkpoints over Thanksgiving weekend to weed out drunk or drug-impaired drivers, Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato said.

"It appears that Thanksgiving is no long just the holiday for breaking bread with loved ones, but for many it now includes celebrating excessively with alcohol or drugs," he said. "We beg those who get behind the wheel to drive responsibly and make smart choices."

The checkpoints will be conducted by local police departments, detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit, Coronato said.
