Star Student Athlete: Berkeley's Kelsey Shines Off The Pitch Too

BERKELEY, NJ— We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we’ve launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Kelsey has been a varsity field hockey player since her freshman year. She has been nominated as both a top 100 junior in the state of NJ, as well as a top 100 senior in the state of NJ. Not only is she a committed player, she is a very committed, respected and responsible teammate. For these traits and qualities, she was named captain both her junior and senior seasons. Not only has she excelled on the field hockey pitch, she too has excelled in the classroom. Kelsey has a GPA above 98. She has been awarded numerous scholar athlete awards as well as the Central Regional educational lamp pins, in recognizing educational excellence. Besides being involved with the CR field hockey team, she too is a member of Phoenix Elite travel field hockey club, participating in college showcase tournaments up and down the east coast. In her other free team, Kelsey is also a buddy to the challenger league athletes, and unified club athletes. She is also a member of the SADD (students against destructive decisions) club and a student ambassador. She is a member of the Garnet Chapter of the National Honor Society, History Honor Society and English Honor Society. In the spring season, not only does she continue to commit herself to the challenger league athletes on Sunday mornings, she is a member of the varsity softball program at Central Regional. After she puts in a full day at school, as well as practice or game for her high school team, she has been a tball coach in the Berkeley Girls Softball league for the last 4 years. She was awarded both the Unsung Hero as well as the Coaches award from her softball program.

She is tenacious and the most respectful player and teammate
