Sunny Skies For Ocean Beaches, Rip Current Risk Has Dropped

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - What a difference a day makes.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies today, just hours after the Jersey Shore was battered by powerful storms and flooding.

Highs today will be in the lower 80s. Winds will be from the north at 5 to 10 miles per hour. Fortunately, there is no rain is sight, so there's no lightning threat.

The rip current risk is low, for the first time in more than a week. But rips can still occur anytime, especially near jetties and other structures. Check with your local beach patrol about problem spots. Never, ever swim on an unguarded beach and never swim alone or at night. People have died on Jersey Shore beaches this summer. Don't be another statistic.

Waves today will be around 4 feet high, with southerly swells of 3 feet. The ocean water temperature is 75 degrees, although that can vary from beach to beach.

The ultraviolet index is an 8, which the NWS considers very high. So don't forget to use the sunscreen, or you'll be hurting tonight.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet arrived at 7:07 a.m. High tide will roll in at 1:07 p.m., followed by another low tide at 7:25 p.m.
