Superstorm Sandy Rescue Group Is Running Out Of Money

Ocean County Long-Term Recovery Group needs help - now.

TOMS RIVER -- Almost four years after Superstorm Sandy battered the Jersey Coast, a group that has helped thousands of residents since then cope with the aftermath is danger of closing, according to app.com.

The Ocean County Long-Term Recovery Group will begin shutting down by the end of the year unless more funds are found, said Sue Marticek, the group's executive director.

The group - a mix of about 80 non-profits - has spent more than $6 million helping Sandy victims make their way through the maze of the state's Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Elevation and Mitigation (RREM) rebuilding program.

The group was founded in November 2012, shortly after the monster storm hit on Oct. 29. Since then, the organization has helped more than 2,300 families with free workshops, how to reopen flood insurance claims and even offered advice to flood-stricken homeowners in Louisiana.

"We have been trying very hard to throw out fishing lines for funding," Marticek said.
