Aging Cast-Iron Water Main To Be Replaced In Bernardsville

New Jersey American Water will upgrade the water lines that were installed as far back as the 1950s.

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — New Jersey American Water will replace over half of a mile of aging cast iron water main in Bernardsville starting in October.

The company will upgrade water lines, which were installed in the 1950s, with new 8-and 12-inch ductile iron main along the following streets:

  • Boylan Terrace entire length
  • Center Street from Boylan Terrace to Bernards Avenue
  • Mt. Airy Road from Prospect Street to Boylan Terrance
  • Prospect Street from West Street to Mt. Airy Road
  • West Street from Boylan Terrace to Bernards Avenue

The project also includes replacing fire hydrants and utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.

Additionally, New Jersey American Water will replace any customer-owned service line that has been identified as lead or galvanized as part of a statewide initiative to remove all lead and galvanized service lines by 2031.

This $2 million investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community, according to NJAW.

New Jersey American Water’s contractor, CRJ Construction, will begin work the week of September 29 and expects to be completed by the end of December. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday on all streets except Mt. Airy Road, which will take place overnight, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Work outside of these hours is not expected unless, required to maintain project schedule.
Final street restorations will take place by spring of 2026.
