Bedminster Teen Volunteer Receives President's Volunteer Service Award
The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes people who have volunteered significant amounts of time to their community.

A volunteer at the Somerset Hills YMCA in Basking Ridge was a recent recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award as part of a nationwide program honoring exemplary young volunteers.
Matt Fischetti, 16, of Bedminster, received the award which recognizes people of all ages who have volunteered a substantial amount of time to serve their community, according to the Somerset Hills YMCA. The award was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards on behalf of President Barack Obama.
“Matt is a passionate and dedicated volunteer,” David M. Carcieri, Somerset County YMCA President and CEO, said in a release from the Y. “He connects well with the children in his care by demonstrating attentiveness and patience while making sure they have fun learning.”

Fischetti was nominated by the Somerset Hills YMCA for his more than 100 hours of volunteer service, including working as a camp counselor to shadow children with developmental disabilities and as a school tutor, the Somerset Hills YMCA said.
“As a tutor, I have seen many kids on the brink of failing a class. They gave 100 percent and still struggled to succeed,” Fischetti said in the release. “Slowly but surely, I saw a giant improvement in these kids, who continued to work hard every week. It is a rewarding experience. My work at the Y has helped me discover a passion I never envisioned: volunteerism.”

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognize middle and high school students across the county for outstanding volunteer service.
“The recipients of these awards demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities,” John Strangfeld, chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial, said. “By recognizing these students and placing a spotlight on their volunteer activities, we hope to motivate others to consider how they can also contribute to their community.”
