Bernards Athletes Sign Letters of Intent
Bernards athletes sign letters of intent, fencers win medals, football's John Maddaluna competes in 'Heart of a Giant' program.
Three Bernards High School athletes recently signed Division One "National Letters of Intent" with three different colleges, Somerset Hills Schools Superintendent Peter Miller announced.
Charlie Cole will swim for Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., Griffin Connor will play lacrosse for Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisc., and Jon Diamond will play lacrosse for the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vt., Miller said.
In addition, Bernards High football's John Maddaluna was the week 12 winner in the Timex Heart of a Giant program, Miller said.

As a winner, Maddaluna and Mountaineers Football Coach Jon Simoneau will attend a cutting edge sports performance and training event at the Timex Performance Center, the official training facility of the New York Giants, in East Rutherford, he said. Maddaluna will compete against other winners from around the state for the opportunity to win $5,000 of equipment donated to Bernards High, Miller said.
Bernards High fencers Tristan Decker (epee), Kristen Coury (foil) and Caitlin Buteau (foil). The three qualified placed in the top 25 percent of all New Jersey high school students at the New Jersey Division Junior Olympic Qualifiers. Coury and Buteau took the gold and silver medals, Miller said. The Junior Olympics will be held in February in Baltimore, he said.
