New Midterm Schedule for Bernards High After Sandy

Somerset Hills school board approves revised schedule at this week's meeting.

An absence from school of almost two weeks caused by Superstorm Sandy has resulted in a revision of this year's midterm schedule at with shorter tests now scheduled for mornings from Jan. 22-25.

The Somerset Hills Board of Education approved the schedule of holding four midterm tests, each lasting one hour and 15 minutes, on that Tuesday through Thursday, and then one test on Friday, said board member Nancy Palazzolo.

The tests have been shortened from previous years, when the midterms took up the day's schedule, she said. Now, the tests will be completed by 10:30 a.m., and the rest of the school day will include all other periods with each shortened by between 24 to 26  minutes, Palazzolo said after Wednesday night's school board meeting.

The change in schedule adds three full classes of instructional time to the week under the revised schedule, Palazzolo said. She said it is conceivable that the new schedule might be continued in future school years.

No homework, quizzes or additional tests will be given on the nights before the midterms, she told the board.
