Snow, Ice Cause Power Outages, Accidents

Multiple vehicles involved in accident at Meeker and Pill Hill roads, power outage reported for a few hours.

JCP&L blames "severe weather" for the 408 Bernardsville households that were without power as of 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, with the utility company's outage map offering the assurance that crews were working to restore electricity at that time.

However, as of about 10:30 p.m., the number of reported outages in the borough was down to 21.

A reader reported that power had gone out along Route 202 by Douglas Road  at about 6:30 p.m., and police confirmed that the outage continued as of shortly before 9:30 p.m. However, that reader said the power had returned as of shortly after 10 p.m., when JCP&L reported a drop of some 20 outages.

Far Hills, Bernards Township also affected

According to the JCP&L power outage map, 146 Far Hills customers also were affected at that time, but no outages were reported as of about 10:40 p.m.

Those without power are asked by JCP&L to call 1-888-544-4877.

Although less than a handful of power outages were reported in nearby Bedminster Township, JCP&L's power outage map initially reported 176 outages in Bernards Township, with the number dropping to just above 5 a little after 10:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Bernardsville Police reportedly were at Pill Hill and Meeker roads after 6 p.m. on Wednesday clearing up the vehicles that had been involved in a mishap there at about 5 p.m., police said. However, borough police reporting from the road said the accident was cleared up by later that evening.

Borough police said that the road was not believed to be closed during the cleanup. However, police still were getting the vehicles towed from the scene as of shortly after 6 p.m., police said.

Slick roads were caused by snow covered by an icy snow and rain throughout the area on Wednesday afternoon. Pill Hill and Meeker roads are narrow and hilly.
