Bernardsville to Decide Where to Spend $10M in Road Repairs
Officials waiting for report on road conditions from engineering firm.
The Bernardsville Council agreed this week to move ahead with repairing borough roads through a $10 million referendum approved by borough voters last November — but officials still haven't decided which ones, and in what order.
"Ten million dollars, with the condition of our roads right now, is not a lot of money," Councilman Joe Rossi said last week. He said however, the borough will stick to that limit.
Rossi suggested the borough should invest in road projects with "longevity" to best use the funds.

The borough's public works manager, John Macdowall, said last week and on Wednesday that the borough's engineering consultant is conducting a study of the condition of the surface of the borough's roads.
He said the work on the study likely will be done within a month, and the information will be compiled in a report after that.

The previous road study was done about three years ago, Macdowall told the Borough Council.
Mayor Lee Honecker on Monday the borough will need to put financing in place for the project later in the year.
