Elections 2012: Two Bernardsville Borough Candidates

Despite rampant power outages throughout the township, Tuesday's elections will go on as planned, and the borough council is seeing two candidates for two open spots on the Bernardsville Borough Council.

The two Republican candidates running for the two slots defeated incumbent Republican council members Charlotte Foster and John McCrossan in the primary elections.

The candidates are Jeffrey DeLeo and Michael DePoortere.

No Democrats are on the ballot for the borough council.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

There will also be a ballot question for residents concerning the possibility of a new turf field. Residents will be asked whether they would like to have a turf field built at the Upper Polo Grounds, and whether they want Open Space Trust Funds to be used to build it.

The question will read:

"Should the Borough of Bernardsville install an artificial turf field at the Upper Polo Grounds at an estimated cost of between $1,245,000 and $1,411,000, using approximately $200,000 up front from the Borough Open Space Trust Fund, and borrowing the balance through the issuance of bonds or bond anticipation notes, the debt service for which will be paid off using Borough Open Space Trust Funds collected in future years?"

Aside from the local elections, residents will be voting on the state and federal levels.

• US Senate—Democratic incumbent Robert Menendez or Republican Joseph Kyrillos
• US House of Representatives—Republican incumbent Leonard Lance or Democrat Upendra Chivukula
• Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders—Republican incumbents Patrick Scaglion and Mark Caliguire or Democrats Anthony Pranzatelli and William Galtieri
