Lifeguard Class happening this weekend at the Bernardsville Pool!
American Red Cross Lifeguarding Class at the Bernardsville Pool. July 5th-7th Friday, Saturday & Sunday 9am-4:15pm.

Through online videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you will learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional Lifeguard.

Prerequisites: Must be 15 years old at the end of the class
1)Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:

- Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)
- Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs
- Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
2) Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
a) Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are NOT allowed.
b) Surface dive, feet first or head first, to a depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10 pound object.
c) Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
The above skill test will be administered as the first thing in the course. Please be prepared.

The practical portion of the class runs over the course of three days:
Fri / Sat / Sun 9am to 4:15pm
Please bring lunch / snacks. Appropriate Swimwear required: Board Shorts, 1 piece suits, Board Shorts / Rash guards. NO Bikini swim suits allowed. Several towels and a change of clothes are strongly recommended. Books can be downloaded here: Red Cross Lifeguarding Book
