Majority of Bedminster Roads Reopened, Mayor Says

But there remains virtually no power in town.

There is still virtually no power in Bedminster, but about 80 percent of the local roads have reopened, Mayor Robert Holtaway said Tuesday.

"We have not sustained any major flooding," he said. "That is one hassle we didn't have."

And fortunately, Holtaway said, there were no major injuries and zero fatalities in the storm.

But the township was not as lucky with downed trees and power lines.

"The Department of Public Works has been clearing roads since 6 a.m.," Holtaway said. "Downed trees and power lines are mostly the problem."

And as of this afternoon, Holtaway said, Route 206 was almost completely closed.

"There is no reason to go out now," he said. "Everyone should hunker down for a while. No stores have power, and no businesses are open."

Between snapped poles and fallen trees, Holtaway said, he expects residents will be without power for many more days at this point.

"And the municipal building has no power," he said. "It will be closed until the power comes back."

"It will be days before everyone gets power back," he added.
