Somerset Hills Offers Support After CT Shooting

Staff meetings were held Friday, and steps have been taken to provide assistance to any student who may need it, Somerset Hills Schools Superintendent of Schools Peter Miller said in the aftermath of that morning's shooting at a school in Newtown, Conn., that killed 20 elementary schoolchildren.

Miller was responding to a question from Patch about whether there would be any counseling offered at the school after the shooting, or whether the school district's own security systems now will be reviewed.

"All of our school safety and security plans were completely updated this fall following the new state Department of Education guidelines," Miller said.

The new plans were done in conjunction with local, county and state law enforcement agencies," Miller said. "In addition, all of our administrators have been trained to implement the new procedures and student safety and security drills are conducted each month in each of our schools," he added.
