Bloomfield Police Help Find Missing Sussex Teen Runaway

Elizabeth Chesner ran away for nine days and was located Tuesday morning in Bloomfield, police report.

A missing Franklin teenager whose absence sparked hundreds to express concern about her rescue on Facebook has been found at the Bloomfield home of her boyfriend. 

Bloomfield police confirmed a report that Franklin police found 16-year-old Elizabeth Chesner at her boyfriend's house in Bloomfield early in the morning of Tuesday, April 2. 

Members of the Franklin Borough Police Department found the 16-year-old Wallkill Valley Regional High School sophomore around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to a report on njherald.com.

The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office joined the Franklin Police Department in trying to find the teen, who admitted to running away from home when she was found, the New Jersey Herald said.

The news of Chesner's 9-day absence spread quickly over social media, with hundreds of concerned local residents joining a Facebook group dedicated to her dissapearance.

Bloomfield police Sgt. Anthony J Servedio said BPD officers had checked the house several times since the High School sophomore was reported missing on March 25 and that Bloomfield police accompanied Franklin Borough Detective Mattessich when Chesner was found this morning.

“We are happy that through the efforts of many concerned people, Elizabeth has been located safe, in good health and reunited with her family,” Servedio said. 

Chesner also admitted to destroying her cellular phone so she could not be found, according to njherald.com.

"Many questions will need to be answered by her," her mother Sharon Decker wrote on a note in the Facebook group. "At this time my soul [sic] focus is she is alive, she is OK, and that she will get any help she will need if needed."
