
Bloomfield’s Township Committee holds a Conference meeting on Monday in Room 205 of the Law Enforcement Building. The agenda includes a discussion by Township Attorney on Animal Shelter Protections.
Last week, a Patch reader posted a letter to the editor urging Bloomfield to pass the Companion Animal Protection Act, which would ban euthanasia for healthy animals at township shelters.
Bloomfield’s animal shelters have been the focus of considerable attention. In February, Township Administrator Ted Ehrenburg took responsibility for the Animal Shelter from Neighbor to Neighbor Network, a volunteer branch within the Department of Health and Human Services, controlled day-to-day operations at the shelter.

NTNN has attracted its share of controversy. In March of 2012, the shelter suspended its volunteer program. Posts on the Facebook page Save the Bloomfield/Bukowski Shelter have accused NTNN of culling emails and phone numbers of adoptors. Also, the NTNN came under fire for its role in the controversy surrounding the pit bull Memphis. NTNN members deemed Memphis unadoptable to the dismay of dog trainers Jeff and Diana Coltenback, who wanted to take the dog in. Memphis was brought to South Dakota, a move that prompted an ultimately unsuccessful lawsuit by the Coltenbacks.
The School Board meets on Tuesday at the School administration building. The agenda includes the appointment of Nisivoccia, LLP & Company as school auditor for 2013 and 2014. At previous budget presentation, Bloomfield Schools Superintendent Jason Bing had made hiring a new auditor part of his plan for reforming the schools budget.
