Montclair Operata Club Puts on "In the Heights" at Bloomfield College

Westminster Arts Center will host staging of 2008 Tony Award-winning musical.

With a musical sensibility drawing on rap, salsa and other urban and latin influences, "In the Heights" is a modern twist on the classic musical.

The 2008 Tony Award-winning musical is set against a vibrant Washington Heights, New York setting where a tight-knit community gathers at the corner bodega and dances to the rhythm of three generations of music. For a taste of the music, check out this youtube trailer

During its off-Broadway run, "In the Heights" quickly became an audience phenomenon and a critical success who where drawn to its exhilarating and authentic look into one of Manhattan’s most vibrant communities. 

Under the direction of Bob Cline, veteran director of 14 Montclair Operata Club productions, the show features a large cast of 29 actors, singers and dancers portraying the residents of Washington Heights.

“I love working in New Jersey theatre because it feels like the audience is an audience of experience,” Cline said in a press release. "They know theatre. This gives me the added challenge of trying to make sure my ideas are new and fresh, as much as my need to respect the work that they are coming to see.”
