New Face Leads In Brick School Board Election Race: Unofficial Results

One incumbent was among four candidates seeking two seats on the Brick Township Board of Education.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Board of Education will have a new face in 2026, but a current board member has been returned to her seat, according to unofficial results of the 2025 election.

With 57 of 57 districts reporting, Michael A. Mastroserio was leading with 10,439 votes and incumbent Fran DiBenedictis was second with 9,941. Nicole Orozco had received 9,455 and Sergio Verdesco had received 7,618 votes.

The seats are three-year terms on the seven-member board.

The results remain unofficial until they are certified later in November.

Mastroserio has worked in education for 32 years and currently is an assistant principal in the Spotswood School District. He has lived in Brick since he was a child, and his children are graduates of the Brick Township Schools.

DiBenedictis was seeking her second term on the board. She was first elected in 2022 with Madeline Colagiovanni Iannarone, who ran for mayor of Brick instead of seeking re-election to the school board. DiBenedictis is a mother of two students in the district.

Orozco has lived in Brick Township since she was a child and worked for the Brick Schools for 21 years as a bus driver and later as a supervisor before leaving to work for the Jackson School District. She currently works for the Colts Neck School District as transportation coordinator for the elementary and middle school district.

Verdesco, who ran with Mastroserio, is a labor union representative with the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters/ Floorcoverers Local 251 who has lived in Brick for 20 years. His children graduated from the Brick school district.
