Brick BOE to Vote on Teacher Hires, Books and Computers

Full-day kindergarten program coming to fruition

Brick Township's Board of Education will vote Thursday night on new teacher hires, the purchase of textbooks and computers, as well as locker replacements at Lake Riviera Middle School.

The board is set to hire eight kindergarten teachers in order to implement its full day kindergarten program in Brick. For the 2013-14 school year, kindergarten students will be taught at their local elementary schools rather than the district's Primary Learning Center facility on Chambers Bridge Road.

The board voted to switch to a full day kindergarten program earlier this year. It is widely expected that the state will eventually require districts to offer a full day day program.

The board will also vote to seek bids for textbooks and computer lease purchases. The bid will have a cap of $1,940,000.

Additionally, the board will vote on the approval of a $286,409 bid by Nickerson Corporation to fund new lockers for Lake Riviera Middle School.
