Woman Killed, Man Charged With DWI In Route 70 Wrong-Way Crash In Brick
Brick police said the crash that shut down Route 70 Friday morning remains under investigation.
BRICK, NJ — A man has been charged with driving while intoxicated following after a Route 70 crash Friday morning in Brick that killed a woman, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Friday evening.
Authorities did not identify the woman who was killed or the man who was charged.
The crash happened about 5 a.m. on Route 70 west near the Lowe's home improvement store, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

A man driving a Toyota Rav 4 the wrong way on the westbound lanes of Route 70 hit a Volkswagen Beetle head-on, he said. The west and east lanes are separated by a concrete barrier.
The man was extricated from the Toyota and taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune; he was listed in critical but stable condition, authorities said. In addition to driving while intoxicated, he was charged with reckless driving, authorities said.

The woman, who was driving the Volkswagen, was partially ejected from the car and died at the scene, authorities said.
"This is an active and ongoing investigation, more information will be released when it becomes available," Billhimer stated.
The Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Brick Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department, Manchester Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit combined on the investigation.
