Ocean County Man Drowns Swimming In Delaware River: Reports

The 24-year-old was about 75 yards from shore when he went under the surface, the reports said.

MILFORD, PA — An Ocean County man drowned Saturday while swimming in the Delaware River in Pennsylvania, according to reports.

The body of Jeysson Ariel Osorio-Reyes, 24, of Jackson Township, was pulled from the river near Bushkill, Pennsylvania, about 7 p.m. on Saturday, MidJersey News reported.

Osorio-Reyes had been swimming about 75 yards from shore off Milford Beach at the Delaware Water Gap when he disappeared under the water, NJ.com reported.

Milford Beach is part of Joseph McDade Recreational Trail, according to the National Park Service. Information on the National Park Service website warns of "strong currents, sharp drop-offs and constantly changing river conditions" that make swimming unsafe in many areas.

Since 1971, 104 people have drowned in the Delaware River, a June 11 WNEP report said.

National Park Service officials urge people to not try to swim across the river and to wear life jackets while swimming.

National Park Service rangers and dive team members from Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Upper Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River, assisted by volunteers from the Milford Fire Department, Milford Ambulance, Port Jervis and Bushkill Dive Teams, and Dingman Township, Sparrowbush, and Huguenot Dive Rescue Teams.
