Those dividends were books.

All 152 of them.

Dr. Krsity Shurina, one of the 7th Grade Language Arts Teachers at the Middle School, explained the project.

"This was the first year of launching the enrichment project in 7th Grade English Language Arts as part of a curriculum update that was approved over the summer," she stated. "The 7th Grade students in the Enrichment Sections of Language Arts began their process to write a novella during the school year. The writers started by finding mentor novels in September and ended by sending their revised and edited books to a publisher in May."

She further revealed the process.

"With a generous grant from the Education Foundation of Bridgewater-Raritan, the department was able to purchase a copy of each book for the students to keep," Dr. Shurina said.

The Education Foundation of Bridgewater-Raritan is a charitable organization that includes Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District administrators and teachers, board of education members, and residents of the community.

The Education Foundation provides grants, scholarships, and other district initiatives that are not covered by the school district budget.

The average total of pages for the novella books was 60 pages, according to Dr. Shurina.

On Monday, all 152 young authors received their books and were awarded medals and congratulations from Suzanne Wooby, the school district’s Supervisor of English Language Arts for 5-8.

The 7th Grade E-Language Arts Teachers who coordinated the Novella project were Megan Alloway, Craig Bogusat, Sue Cacciatore, Bridget Lawler, Lori McLain, Kimberly Pratt, Kristy Shurina, Kelly Schwertfeger, Kelly Zarelli, and Zoe Zylowski.
